KEEP YOUR HOME COMFORTABLE AND EFFICIENT THIS WINTER

The holidays are here, which means Paul Davis Restoration of Akron Ohio is looking forward to the exciting changes that will take place in 2015. To help you enjoy the coming year comfortably (and with an eye to energy efficiency), we’ve put together some ideas that Akron homeowners can use immediately:

  • Check furnace filters each month and clean them when needed, depending on your filter. By using pleated paper filters, you can filter out most allergens and small particulates. With a clean filter, your furnace won’t have to work as hard.
  • If they are not sealed properly, doors and windows can leak heat. Caulking helps keep cold air and moisture out. Use a latex/acrylic caulk that’s flexible, waterproof, and can be painted to match your trim. Weather stripping is also a smart idea, especially for doors.
  • If your fireplace has an open firebox, think about adding glass fireplace doors to prevent heat from escaping. Alternatively, special fireplace blankets can be purchased that cover opening when the fireplace is not in use.
  • High ceilings in your home? Ceiling fans aren’t just for summer – use a ceiling fan on the reverse “winter” setting to distribute heat around the room, which will save energy.
  • A programmable thermostat will help you regulate the indoor temperature, turning up the heat when you’re about to come home and turning it down overnight or while no one is home.

Please incorporate some of these tips in your home this winter. The result will be lower energy bills and a more comfortable Akron home. From all of us at Paul Davis Restoration of Akron Ohio, enjoy!
