Slow in School Zone

School Zones are for Kids

  • Follow the speed limit while in a school zone.
  • No matter which way you are traveling, stop for school buses and be cautious of children.
  • Follow the direction of crossing guards.
  • Watch out for children, especially near schools and parks.
  • Do not pass other cars, change lanes, or make U-turns while in a school zone.
  • Do not text and drive.
  • If you must use a cell phone, only use hands-free devices.
  • Never use handicap spaces or lanes unless licensed.

Walking to School

  • Always look both ways before crossing the street.
  • Only cross streets at designated crosswalks.
  • Obey traffic signs, signals, and markings.
  • Teach traffic safety awareness and select the safest route between the school and your home. Practice walking it with your children.
  • Teach your children to:
  1. never accept a ride from someone else, even if they know them, without your permission.
  2. always walk to school with someone else.
  3. report the incident to you or a teacher immediately if another person asks them to get into a vehicle.
